We can only cover so much during our clinic academic half day sessions but there were many other topics in preventative medicine we weren't able to cover. The questions below are an attempt to explore those topics. There is no expectation to answer these questions, but we would love to see how some of you would approach these scenarios. If if able, write in the comments section your response to one of all of them, there is no right or wrong answer. Let's see what kind of discussion we can get going! We will also have some of our GIM attendings comment as well at the end of next week.
1. How do you define recurrent UTI’s? What first line interventions do you typically implement when you suspect a patient is having issues with recurrent UTI’s?
2. Has the recombinant shingles vaccine (Shingrix) arrived to your clinic? Who are you giving this to? Is there any particular population you are making an effort to get this to ASAP?
3. Have you come across an asplenic or functionally asplenic individual in clinic? How does that affect your preventative management?
4. Have you seen in clinic any younger individuals who will soon be off to college? What vaccines did you make sure they had prior to life in dormitories?
Any thoughts from our residents?
